ABOUT OUR HISTORIC ALES
Both of our historic ales are based on 100 year old recipes originally brewed by the Pryor Reid Brewery in Hatfield, just 3 miles from our current brewery. With roots dating back to the 17th century, by the early 1900s it had grown to be Hatfield's biggest employer with an estate of over 100 pubs, some of which are still selling ale today.
We have gone to great lengths to to re-create the original beers as faithfully as possible. The Porter comprises no less than ten different malts and sugars, and we have even imported rare yeast unique to the UK to best match that originally used in 1914.
MILD 3.5% abv
Brewed with Pale, Black and Crystal Malts and hopped with Fuggles and Goldings, this is a full flavoured Mild, with toffee, roasted grain and peppery hops to the fore.
PORTER 5.5% abv
Originally called Entire Butt Porter, this is a tremendously complex beer, with no less than ten malts and brewing sugars and hops from Kent, France and Germany. The initial taste of bitter hops, liquorice and Espresso coffee is followed by a long bittersweet finish with burnt fruit, coffee and tangy hops.
